JAN LI TAN

Assistant Project Director

Jan Li Tan is a pianist from Malaysia. She read music at the University of York under the tutelage of Kate Ledger and has a LTCL diploma in piano performance. She is an experienced chamber musician, accompanist and teacher. Notable performances include, Lichtbogen by Kaaija Saariaho and the UK Premiere of The New Normal by William Dougherty with The Chimera Ensemble, as well as the premiere of open-closed-open by Desmond Clarke with the University of York Piano Ensemble. Her main interests lie in exploration of contemporary classical music, in particular the Asian cultural identity and how it has been formed through their responses to Western classical music and the traditional music of their home culture. Although the piano is her first love, Jan is also a singer, Ranak Ek player and has recently started learning the trombone.
