SOFIA SWENSON-WRIGHT

Sofia is a final year Music student at the University of York, where she sings, composes, conducts, and plays the recorder. She grew up in Cambridge and started composing when she was 13. She is particularly interested in the relationship between language and music, having sung since joining the St Catharine’s College Girls’ Choir in 2009. Sofia is passionate about programming secular choral music and music by women. In 2015, she was Highly Commended in the BBC Proms Inspire Competition and is now a BBC Inspire Ambassador. As a singer, she has been a member of the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain and Cambridge Youth Opera. At York, she conducts the student choir, Animas, sings in operas, choirs, and vocal groups including The 24, and has been a member of contemporary music groups such as Chimera and The Assembled.
