SOFIA SWENSON-WRIGHT

Sofia is a second year Music student at the University of York, where she composes, sings, conducts, and plays the recorder. She grew up in Cambridge and started composing when she was 13. She is particularly interested in the relationship between language and music, having sung since joining the St Catharine’s College Girls’ Choir in 2009. Sofia is passionate about programming music by women and making contemporary music and choral music more accessible. In 2015, she was Highly Commended in the BBC Proms Inspire Competition and is now a BBC Inspire Ambassador. At York, she has been a member of several contemporary music groups including Chimera and The Assembled. She loves German and moved to Berlin for 5 months in 2017. She feels strongly about environmental activism and loves reading poetry.
